Founded on 15 August, 2001 Government Post Graduate College, Thalisain (PauriGarhwal) is located at the place of Veer Chandra Singh Garhwali, the hero of Peshawar Revolt. At an altitude of 1690 metres from the sea level, it is situated on a gentle slope above the right bank of the river Nayaar (East) and also at the southeastern foothills of Dudhatoli mountain range. It is about 90 kilometers away from the district headquarter of PauriGarhwal. The college is affiliated to Sri DevSumanUttarakhand University, Badshahithaul (TehriGarhwal).

Being the Tehsil and Block Headquarter, the college stands as a bright pillar of higher education for the students of about more than 150 villages. In its initial phase it was started under the Faculty of Arts, with seven subjects namely Hindi, English, Political Science, History, Geography, Economics and Sociology at the graduation level. It was shifted to its new building on 5 September, 2014. With an aim of promoting a culture of research and innovation, Faculty of Science was started from the session 2015-16 to equip the students with the ability to explore the world of knowledge with scientific outlook.


The college attained new height with the commencement of classes at Post Graduate level, in the Session 2019-20 with four subjects namely Hindi, English, Political Science, and Sociology. In the year 2021 three new subjects were introduced under the faculty of Arts: Home Science, Military Science and Sanskrit at graduation level. The time-bound educational almanac, NSS, E-library, Sports and the Departmental activities are the centre of attraction for the new students. For the purpose of capacity building of the college it was funded by RUSA (Phase I), a project by Government of India. Moreover, the Book Donation Scheme of Government of Uttarakhand, was started from this college, by Hon’bleDr. K.K. Paul, the then Governor of Uttarakhand. It is also a centre for Uttarakhand Open University since 2018. Additionally, it has sent the proposal for the Model College in the year 2023. According to the guidelines of Government of Uttarakhand, NEP has been implemented in the college at graduation level from the session 2022-2023, with the goal of providing a multidisciplinary and holistic education.
